Trust Our Instincts
Managing and using the driver's natural reflexes and alertness to improve shared driving on autonomous vehicles.
The human experience consists of the absorption of feelings, sounds and images and to them will be each person's initial response when an external trigger occurs, anything that activates the senses, even before it becomes thought and emotion and before the action itself. Experienced human drivers have their own reactions and behaviors while driving. They will sense the vehicle behavior and feel the vibrations in the driver's seat and their body will react to the speed changes and to occasions on the road. By assuming the driver's in-car environment on level 3-4 does not change from the one we know today, all of these have the potential to confuse the AV driver.
Today the industry is looking on the Human Machine Interface outside the car trying to comprehend each other’s intentions and actions and to predict the behavior and the communication of pedestrians and other cars. I suggest looking on the Human Machine Interface inside the car as a new approach. Collecting the human driver's personal data based on his movements and body measurements and transmitting it to the AV algorithms as providing a new layer of information, in order to create a driving environment that is responding to the human driving experience using his body feedback. I suggest exploring how to harness this full sensory system based on feelings, instincts, and responses as an agent to help perform a better driving experience and increase trust.
